Topics to be covered:

You will need: calculator, pencil(s), ruler (I will provide)
- Do not forget your calculator - I will not have extras - You will die without a calculator
- Exam Format: matching, T/F, multiple choice, short answer
- Once you are in the Performance gym, look for an exam with your name on it

- Vocabulary will come from the DNA fingerprinting, Fingerprinting, Ballistics, and Hair Chapters

The Exam will cover the following chapters: (be sure that you have read and understand the material in the following chapters)

Chapter 1: Observation Skills

Chapter 2: Investigation and Evidence Collection
- you should have notes for this section including type and categories of evidence
- forensic specialists

Chapter 3: The Study of Hair
- Vocabulary pg 49
- In particualr, you should be familiar with the structure of the hair and the information that can be obtained from those parts
- Be able to calculate and distinguish between animal and human hair

Chapter 6: Fingerprints
- Vocabulary pg 133
- You should be able to identify the basic patterns in a fingerprint - arches, whorls, loops, deltas, etc.
- You should be able to use the minutiae pattern chart on pg. 139

Chapter 7: DNA Fingerprinting
- Vocabulary pg 158
- This material will come mostly from the chapter and the worksheets/presentations given by your classmates
- Understand how to read electrophoresis gels (how the bands match up and what they signify/mean)
- Be able to determine paternity from DNA fingerprinting

Chapter 8: Blood and Blood Spatter
- blood typing
- satellites and how they are formed
- point of origin, lines of convergence, and any calculations that go along with it
- chemical methods of blood detection

Chapter 11: Death - Manner and Mechanism
- rigor mortis, livor mortis, algor mortis and insect activity
- be sure to know the time estimations after death and any calculations we have done that go with these
- Know the life cycle of the fly (pg 319)

Chapter 13: Forensic Anthropology
- Know and Understand the chart on pg 367 - Distinguishing Males from Females
- Know how to use the height estimation formulas on pg 371 (you don't need to memorize this one)

Chapter 17: Ballistics
- Vocabulary pg 491
- Be able to calculate bullet trajectory (like you did in the lab on pg 507)

Criminal Profiling/Serial Killers - know what it is and what kinds of things criminal profilers look for
